As I might have mentioned in previous posts, -maybe, maybe not- I really like the show The Amazing World of Gumball. It’s a very hilarious show and each episode has its own special and random scenario.
Well, there’s this episode titled “The Flower” and it’s about jealousy. Basically in the episode, Gumball feels jealous of Leslie because he is spending too much time and is getting too close to Penny. What’s hilarious about the episode is that jealousy becomes like an alter ego for Gumball. He becomes this green, brutish creature that just wants to hurt Leslie for his closeness to Penny.
For me the episode is not only hilarious, but I also like the personification that they provide to jealousy itself. I think it’s a character that even if we don’t want to, we will eventually relate to it. We’ve all felt jealous, maybe for a lover, for a friend, or even a family member at some point in our lives.
In The Amazing World of Gumball Wiki, they say Jealousy is this green manifestation that “also causes its victim to reveal something they always wanted, except for those who are happy with their life as it is like Darwin.” And I guess that’s what jealousy is all about. It’s this feeling of wanting something and not being able to have it, or maybe even the feeling of having something and wanting no one else to have it. It all depends on the situation and such.
Eventually, Music Enthusiast as I am, when I saw this episode I remembered the phrase:”Jealousy is the cousin, the cousin of greed” from the song “Curse of Curves” by Cute Is What We Aim For. And when you come to think of it, it really makes sense. Greed is this immense desire to have something, and isn’t that what jealousy is all about?
Anyways, long story short, by the end of the episode we find out that Leslie is Penny’s cousin. So I guess that’s why the phrase applies in this case even more. HA-HA!! And my friends, you can’t deny it, after watching this episode you have to admit that at some point in your life, you’ve had that alter ego, that green manifestation deep inside you because of something or someone. You gotta admit it. Maybe it was once, twice, or like in my case, too many times to count, but you have turned into that Gumball.
Or, as the episode ends, into that Penny.
Until our next time,
